Today is mother’s day in my country, Portugal. I celebrate this beautiful woman who here in her twenties, loved Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movies, Frank Sinatra and dreamt of visiting America.
She wanted to be an actress but instead got married and had 6 very distinct children, me being the baby of the family. I pay homage to the strong, courageous woman she was, who was always there for us and my father, who when I was sick took good care of me, who fed me delicious food and who taught me about life!
As the mother of a beautiful 3 year old girl, I now understand much more what it means to love unconditionally such a special being, to worry all the time, to feel loved, needed and appreciated. Above all I understand now why my mother told us repeatedly that she wished we were all small again. I want to cherish every special moment and sometimes want to stop time so that I can enjoy my baby a little while longer.
To all the mothers out there, Happy Mother’s day!
