Today is supposed to be my kitchen D Day, the day where I will finally see it finished or is it?

They came late again which is not surprising at all. But this time they brought something new. Music! How can I describe the style? From where I am it sounds like a crossing of Czech electronic music with Russian Cossack music. Very original I must admit. Do I love it? Nope but if it helps them finish the kitchen, I’m certainly willing to have an open mind! Who knows, by the end of the day I might actually start liking it!

So I was reading something in my computer and all of a sudden the electricity is cut. I get up and ask the workers if they were the ones who cut the electricity. They confirm and I ask if I could have some warning in advance, please, since it is not very healthy for my computer to shut down like that. They look at me puzzled and when I turn to my translator he seems to have forgotten the few words of English he managed before. Wonderful! I’m back to sign language then!

I somehow make the design of a computer in the air, repeat the word five times, point at the board, try to make the sign of scissors cutting and then repeat the word kaput! kaput! To emphasize how they could have damaged the computer! Even tried to make the sound of an explosion going off, a bit exaggerated I know, but desperate times, need desperate measures! Then I see they got it! Finally!

So the one in charge decides to give me a 5 minute explanation in Czech and a few words of German of what happened. It is amazing but I think I got it. He tried to explain with very dramatic gestures that to put the stove top, they had somehow miscalculated which wires they should connect and the board switch suddenly cut the  power. A few more days and I could probably become a Czech translator. Anyway, they promised not to play with the electricity again!

Great news! They just went on one of their smoking breaks but they told me proudly I already have water in the kitchen, the sink is installed! I went to check and the new exhauster is also in place. Now we just have all the cupboard doors left, ah yes, and the oven and … hey but I have water in the kitchen!

Latest news are that they may finish at 9 or maybe 10 in the evening! Great! Well, I try to hang on to the word finish and hope for the best. Oven in but no doors in sight yet…

Last word was 9.30, I can only imagine how we will not be very popular with the neighbors today again. And the electronic music is still going strong, fortunately not too loud!

Well, it is now almost 11 in the evening and we are approaching the end it seems. It is finally looking like a kitchen! Even the electronic music seems to have faded away. The kitchen designer arrived and is now checking the last details. I still can’t believe it is almost over.

And it is done! Well I should say there is still the minor detail of a door missing in one of the cabinets (wrong size) but apart from that I have a kitchen. I don’t think I would have survived another day! My poor daughter fell asleep  and will only see the results tomorrow…

Here is a first picture, not the ideal lighting but well, there is still work to be done on my part to put it exactly as I want it but I finally have a kitchen!

Welcome! Through my photography and my travels, you will discover the people I have encountered and the places that will stay with me forever. In this crazy new reality we seem to be living, it is even more important to be grateful for all the people who have crossed our path and touched us in same way. As for all the old and new stones, they can live in our imaginary for now, waiting, when the time is right again ...

María, felicidades quedo linda, tiene algo que te recordará a la de México, el color y las jaladeras. Me encantó que ahora eres traductora de checo, me hiciste reír. Valió la pena la música y todo el tiempo que se llevo.

Thank you Carmen! It does remind me a bit of mine in Mexico. And when my dried chiles arrive, even more 🙂 It will definitely get a few more Mexican touches! Yes, it was all worth it and I even discovered new talents. Also that I can be very patient when necessary!
